4. Individual Development and Identity

C. Describe the ways family, religion, gender, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, and other group and cultural influences contribute to the development of a sense of self

 

II.     Results/Expected Learning Outcome

The student will:

        Examine the possible roles and influences in one’s life

 

III.      Evaluation

The student will be evaluated on the short autobiographical paper he or she writes and participation in the class activity, and reflection paper

Students will be assigned to write a short, one page paper reflecting on his or her life regarding the following influences: family, religion, gender, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status (OPTIONAL), and other group and cultural influences. Students will not put their name on the paper but a designated number that they will be known by. Students will then pass around papers and read about their classmates. Students will fill out a numbered sheet and write down the name of the student that they think the numbered paper belongs to.  At the end of class, correct answers will be given. Students then write a one page reflection regarding how they did picking out classmates, including how they did guessing and what individuality means and the effects and importance of individuality.

How many correct matches did you make between students and their papers?

Was it easy to read about someone that you have known for a while and know who it was?

How did you know?

Did things give it away?

Who did you match? Someone you know well or not?
